David Buchanan, Quinan Lee and myself all passed our BKA level 1 Coaching award on Saturday.

Along with Donnie Gordon, this means the club now boasts 4 coaches to support Gerry, Jim and Don.

Level 1 - club coach award course

Guys,

I intend to run a level 1 - club coach award course in mid January.

The requirements are Shodan+ and over 18yrs.

All interested should apply to Ian Parker Dodd via the bka website/coaching section - http://www.kendo.org.uk/files/Coaching_Application_Form.doc . The process is as follows;

Complete and send the application
I receive notification from Ian that this has been done
I issue you with the course material
You prepare your teaching sessions based on the material distributed
We run the course during which you are assessed on the delivery of the above
I complete the evaluation documentation
You receive certification if successful

Matsumoto Details Update

The schedule for Matsumoto sensei's visit have been finalised. The visit will take place over the weekend of the 5/6/7th of October.

Next month Taiseidokai will be playing host to the new National Kendo Coach, Matsumoto Sensei, Nanadan Kyoshi.

Matsumoto Sensei visited Scotland 23 years ago and expressed a keen interest in visiting again, so it would be nice if as many people as possible from all Scottish Dojo were to attend and show how Kendo has grown since Matsumoto Sensei's last visit.

The visit is being timed to coincide with the next monthly All Scotland Stirling Practice.

A provisional schedule is as follows;

Friday 5th October Keiko 2000-2100 Kelvinhall
Saturday 6th October Sensei's choice 1000-1200 University of Stirling
Sunday 7th October as above 1130-1330 Bellahouston Sports Centre

I hope that everybody that is able will make the effort to attend as Matsumoto Sensei is a first class teacher.

Taiseidokai stormed to a convincing victory on Saturday at the Thistle Cup by taking at least gold in every category we had entrants.

In the 13 - 15 division Kyle Brogan took Gold and David Bryce took joint Bronze.

In the 16 - 18 division Kerr Brogan took Gold.

And in the Adult division David Buchanan took Gold and Joe Heenan took Silver.

In addition, all of the other Taiseidokai fought extremely well. The level of kendo displayed throughout the competition was very high and I'm sure that everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

Many thanks to Yamazaki Sensei and all of Aberdeen Kendo Club for organising the event.

I will be doing a write up for the articles page soon.

Aberdeen's annual Taikai is coming up on the May 5th and it's time to be registering.

You need to get this form printed and handed in at practise with a check for £5 made out to "Aberdeen Kendo Club"

Yamazaki Sensei needs these back before the 30th so hand them in to the club by next Thursday (26th) at the very latest.

Refereeing Seminar

There will be a refereeing seminar covering all aspects needed to become a BKA registered referee.
The President of the BKA has asked for more people to attend this seminar as the association requires an increase in registered and qualified referees to continue the high level of expertise [as we have often noted...] required at BKA taikais.
This seminar is an open invitation for all dan grades and again I stress the importance of attending (not only to comply with current qualifying requirements) but to the detriment of future taikai both at home and overseas.

Open Invitation from Nagamitsu Dojo

13th -15th April 2007

There will be a party from Ireland visiting Birmingham and Nagamitsu dojo are their hosts for the weekend
This visit coincides with the refereeing seminar and we intend to host a taikai workshop and jigeiko, team and individual taikai to run alongside the seminar. This should have several opportunities for all attendees.
1, the chance for referees to hone their skills in a friendly atmosphere but with the advantage of real time shiai.
2, with the European championships in Portugal, the GB team have expressed an interest to enter a team and to compete in the individual competition on Sunday.
3, the opportunity to compete against some of the UK and Irelands finest shiai people and help in their preparations for the Euro championships.
